Common Types of Freight Shipments
1
Truckload
When you have a full truckload freight shipment, it will take up the entire truck when shipping. The truck will only be hauling your freight and there will be direct contact with the driver and dispatcher on that load. This provides the highest degree of communication and control of the freight.
Partial Truckload
In the event you need to ship goods that don’t completely fill the truck but you want direct communication and faster transit times than LTL, you will use a partial truckload shipment. This type of shipment will be shipped with other goods on the truck and allows for discounted rates with the control/communication of hiring a dedicated truck.
3
LTL or Less than Truckload
Another type of freight shipment is LTL. This type of freight shipment is used when you don’t need the entire truck. Since carriers can load multiple LTL shipments into one truck, you will split the cost of the truck with other shippers. This is a great tool for non-time sensitive freight.
